In this episode we speak to members of the Central Region Indigenous Advisory Circle.
Regional Indigenous Advisory Circles to the OPP provide an opportunity to facilitate the integration of local Indigenous perspectives into the delivery of culturally responsive and appropriate policing for Indigenous peoples and communities. The OPP acknowledges the harms that have been inflicted on Indigenous peoples and communities and is committed to establishing and maintaining mutually respectful relationships in the interest of reconciliation. Regional Advisories include members from local Indigenous communities and organizations, with OPP Regional, Detachment and Indigenous Policing Bureau personnel participating in the discussions and providing a secretariate role. The goal is for Regional Advisories to provide guidance on local issues impacting Indigenous people/communities and police.
First Nations within Central Region include: Beausoleil First Nation, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, Moose Deer Point First Nation, Wahta Mohawk Territory, Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, and Alderville First Nation.
